Intro to Yoga Workshops

East Meets West Yoga will begin offering a monthly Introduction to Yoga Workshop at each of our two locations. These 2 hours experiential workshops will introduce students to foundational postures, breathing techniques and alignment principles, as they relate to a flowing Vinyasa practice. This Introductory workshops will consist of a slower paced yoga practice that includes Sun Salutations, standing poses, spinal flexion and extension, hip and shoulder opening as well as the preparatory stages of arm balances and inversions. Precise cueing and more detailed descriptions allow students to more deeply comprehend the basics of vinyasa yoga on a physical energetic and cognitive level, and to translate that comprehension into their own practice.

We have designed our Introduction to Yoga workshops for students who are new to yoga as well as current students with questions about the practice to join us.

Ayurvedic Philosophy and Yoga Workshop with Julia Kress

Ayurveda has been described as the sister science to yoga as it helps us understand in greater detail, through a constitutional analysis, how we are affected by the environment and type of practice we engage in. Discovering your dosha (the ratio of earth, water, fire, air, ether) and your virkruti (imbalanced dosha) you can start to design a yoga and meditation program to serve your personal needs that will influence your dosha positively.

We will also cover a broader philosophy that helps us understand patterns of the mind and the practices recommended by both sciences to bring clarity and steadiness to our emotions and thought patterns.

Dowel Workshop with David Bruni

This unique workshop will focus on highly effective, yet very simple techniques to quickly soften the muscles and tendons and sooth the superficial nervous system. The dowel is 2 feet in length and made of wood. Doweling is a form of self-therapy used to loosen layers of tension and stress that lie beneath the surface of the skin. The sensations created by the dowel are similar to receiving a massage, but you remain in control of the pressures applied.

Some very basic yoga postures will be incorporated into the class. This workshop is open to students of all levels.

Come tenderize your muscles through doweling!

Date: Sunday May 19th 2013
Time: 2:00- 4:00 pm
Where: emw @ Village glen
Cost: $40

Pre-registration is required.
